Successful Historical Bus Tour
as part of the 2016 20th Annual
Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival
As part of the 2016 Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival, Board Member and Committee Chair, Louis S. Diggs, coordinated a 55-passenger bus tour of interested persons of African American History in Baltimore County on an tour of several 1800’s African American Churches in North Baltimore County to learn the history of these churches and to pay respect to the numerous African Americans veterans laid to rest in the church cemeteries who served in the Civil War through the Korean War.
The tour guides were Louis S. Diggs, Francis Cockey and Elizabeth Smith.
The tour began with a visit to the newly established Diggs-Johnson Museum in Granite, with stops at Mt. Joy AME Church in Monkton, Stevenson AME Church in Sparks, where the participants were treated to a wonderful lunch, and to Mt. Zion AME Church in Long Green/Glen Arm. Participants were treated to the history of these early 1800s African American Churches.
The tour exceeded six (6) hours and was the 20th historical tour provided by Louis S. Diggs and Lenwood Johnson.
