Heroes & Sheroes

Caring for Our Armed Forces

With only one percent of our population actually serving our country to ensure that all one hundred percent of us are safe and continue to enjoy the freedoms of our United States of America, it’s time for us to once again honor these great men and women who serve us.

Honoring Our Vietnam Veterans

The Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival, Inc., hosted our 20th Anniversary in 2016 and as part of our Silver celebration, honored the Men and Women who have courageously served during the Vietnam War Era (1965-1975) by publicly acknowledging their service to our country with a Special Proclamation and Lapel Pin.

This acknowledgement was sponsored by The Department of Veterans Affairs Office of the Secretary/Center for Women Veterans and took place during our regularly scheduled Military Hero/Shero program at the festival in Patriot Plaza.

For future acknowledements, if you or someone you know has served please submit their name, Branch of Service, Title/Rank, email address and phone number by August 31. For additional information you may contact Danyell Smith, Committee Co-Chair at danyellps@hotmail.com or call 410-645-0574.

Hero/Shero Contest... Who’s your Hero or Shero?

With only one percent of our population actually serving our country to ensure that all one hundred percent of us are safe and continue to enjoy the freedoms of our United States of America, it’s time for us to once again honor these great men and women who serve us.

The Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival is sponsoring its fourth Hero/Shero Contest. In a paragraph of a hundred words or less, you can nominate an active duty service member, a reservist, a national guard member, or a veteran who you feel is the Hero or Shero in your life.

We, the Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival Contest Committee, look forward to hearing about who your Hero/Shero is. Nominate your Armed Forces HERO/SHERO by completing the nomination form (at left when available).

The Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival, Inc., USO Metropolitan Washington, BWI Airport, & Baltimore County Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) are partnering to support our troops!

Help us help our troops by providing snacks and items that can be used in the USO-Metro airport lounge.

The USO-Metro airport lounges help lift the spirits of military members and their families, as they transit the airport, by providing an environment to reduce the stress of travel and relocation. The USO lounge at Baltimore Washington Marshall International Airport is open daily, 6:00 am–10:00 pm. Complimentary amenities include: wireless internet access, desktop computers with webcams, Skype and CAC card readers; photocopying, faxing, snacks, family room, sleep chairs, TV, movies, and telephones for local, long distance, and overseas calls.
